Website Building: Your First Steps
Congratulations to your newly created website! The first thing you see is the Website Builder you’ll use to customize your website by filling it with your own content.
Everything you do can be changed later. Feel free to try out the different design elements and tools – have fun with it! Let’s look at the first point in the left side menu together:
Design
When thinking about your website design, first you’ll have to make some style choices. You’ll find the basic styling elements that will set the tone for your project or business here. Easily adjust colors, fonts, and button shapes across your website. We’ll talk about the other components of your website design, structured navigation, and engaging content later on.
Color Palette
Think about the colors of your website first. Pick one or two colors that match your logo, brand, or colors that you enjoy. Our algorithm will generate a complete color palette by choosing matching colors. This makes it easy to use a consistent color scheme for your website.
You can also use an image you like or your logo as the base for your color palette. Don’t have a logo yet? Head over to our BUILDLink Logo Creator to design a logo for your project or business. It’s free, easy, and will give your website a boost of professionalism!
Let’s get back to the colors. Colors can influence the mood of your website. Select a comforting warm orange, an energetic red, a confident blue, or other colors that will impact and inspire your customers.
Saturation
After deciding on your base colors, regulate the saturation of your palette. Tone your palette down for a softer look, or brighten it with the slider to make it louder!
Font Choice
We’ve created a selection of readable fonts for you to choose from. To ensure a unified look that makes your website that much more professional, the font is used for all text on your website. Choose one of the suggested fonts that fit with the overall mood of your website. Some fonts look more traditional and serious, while others have a younger, more urban feel.
Font Size
Choose the size of your text: Small, Normal, Medium, or Large. Your header and footer navigation as well as button text sizes are fixed and won’t change. While making this choice, consider the readability of your texts. If you’re writing long texts, a larger font size will take up more space and might not be as easy to read as a smaller size. Also, think about your audience. If you expect younger readers or visitors who are of advanced age or visually impaired, large text is a user-friendly choice.
If you’re thinking about optimizing your website for search engines (SEO), choose large text for titles, medium for descriptions, and small for general text. We’ll get into SEO topics later as well!
Button shapes
Choose the shape of your buttons: Sharp, Rounded, or Oval. The color of your buttons adjust automatically to your color scheme. Rounded edges are more playful and casual, while square buttons are more formal and serious. The shape you choose will depend on the nature of your project or business.
Animation
Decide how content appears when scrolling through your website. Images that slide or fade in appear more dynamic, while static images are more traditional. Think about your project or business and the impression you want to make with your website!
You can choose between the three following options:
- None: Your content appears in a traditional static form,
- Slide in: Your content will slide in from the bottom, so that it moves into the area that is being viewed or,
- Fade in: Your content is semi-transparent until the visitor is directly on the content at which point it is completely visible. This effect is very subtle and will not impact the loading times of your website or disturb the viewer experience.
