Website Building: Blocks

Blocks

Let’s fill your shiny new page with some content! We do that with blocks. Blocks are the main components of your website. Imagine those building blocks that you played with as a child. Similarly, these blocks can be used to create a website. Different block types enable you to build your BUILDLink website the way you want it.

Cover

A cover block lets you place eye-catching images and text that fill your website border to border. Cover blocks invite your visitors to check out your content and lead them down via a discrete arrow. If you use it on top of your page, this arrow is part of the title block design. The image in this block is responsive and will change size to adapt to smaller screen sizes as well!
A tip for those optimizing their website for search engines: the block you use on top of your page determines what's shown in search engine results!

Text

Add texts of any length. Keep in mind search engines tend to like texts of at least 250 words so that they can analyze their relevance according to keywords that your visitors might use to find your page. Use those keywords in the texts on your page for a successful website, but compose your text as naturally as possible. Google doesn’t like texts that are an obvious collection of keywords and could devalue your website because of it!

About

Tell your visitors something about you, your project or business, or the reason for this website. Make them curious and send them to another subpage with a link via a button or a text link. If you add a picture in this block, it’ll scale to size on smaller screens. This is ideal for content on mobile browsers if you want it to keep the same format.

News

If you have short bits of information that you’d like to provide your visitors with, try a News block. They’re generally slim blocks used for important information about changed hours of operation or special offers.

Image

Use these blocks to build your gallery page by using image blocks with varying layouts.
You can add images by utilizing our image library. Your image library contains your uploaded images and high-resolution pictures that we provide for you, free to use. You can also upload images directly from your social media pages, including Facebook, Instagram, or Google Maps.
Several of the blocks have the ability to make your image clickable, enabling your visitors to focus on one image in particular. You can also use our image editor to adjust your images to your page!
To build a strong brand, a consistent look is key. With the image editor, you can achieve a consistent look for your images by using uniform sizing and filters. By doing so, the images on your website will look professional and be consistent with your brand's aesthetic.
Whether you’re thinking about SEO or the accessibility of your website, consider alternative text for your images. Alt text allows search engines to match your images to search results. Alt text also describes images to visually impaired people who use a screen reader.

Slideshow

If you like to showcase multiple text or image slides, you can use this block to save space on your website. Duplicate slides if you want to add more. You can let them change automatically or disable the autoplay function if you want your visitors to click through the slides manually.

Columns

Vertical columns are great for displaying your offers or information that requires comparison. You can duplicate the columns if you have more information to share!

List

A list is a good way to display and order information on your page. If you need a longer list, duplicate the bullet points!

Banner

A banner block is perfect for the top of your page. Capture your visitors' interest and entice them to stay on your page and explore your content.

Music

Use this block to add music from Spotify or iTunes to your page. Your visitors can now play your favorite music directly on the page.
Are you a musician yourself and publish on Soundcloud or Bandcamp? Try the Smart Apps block to showcase your latest compositions!

Booking

Add a link to your online booking tool (e.g. Shore or Calendly). You can personalize this block with a description of the services your visitors can book. Using the link provided, visitors can book your services on your booking page.
If you’d rather add Calendly directly, try the Smart Apps block to integrate it on your page!

Menu

This block enables you to create a sample menu for your restaurant. You can adapt it by adding pictures, descriptions, and prices so that your website visitors can check out what you’re offering.

Contact

A contact form on your website gives your visitors the opportunity to engage with you. Add one of the email addresses that you’ve added to your account. Any mail that you receive via the contact form forwards to this email address.
Your visitors aren’t required to give out any data except for their email address. We do, however, provide an additional field for their phone number and name. You can also use Google Maps to show visitors the location of your shop in the event that they want to drop by and say hello in person. You can also add your WhatsApp as another contact channel. Your visitors will love getting in touch with you!

Smart Apps

Embed various third-party content directly on your website with the tool block.
Link to the respective service by adding the URL. We’ve integrated a few of the most relevant providers for content and services, such as Instagram, Airbnb, and Pinterest, to give your visitors the ability to engage with you.

Block left side menu

The sidebar next to your blocks on the left side helps you make changes within one block.

Change design

You can change the design of an existing block via the fan icon (Block Design). This enables you to change the color of a block. You can make it stand out, change the type of block you want to use, or make adjustments to certain blocks (e.g. disable autoplay for slideshow blocks).

Copy

Click the Copy icon to the left of the desired block if you want to use the same block again in a different location. Using the Paste button, which appears between two blocks (to the right of the Add block button), you can insert the block anywhere on your website.
If the block is no longer needed in the original position, you can delete it afterwards.

Duplicate

To duplicate the block, click on the duplication option. The duplicated block appears below the original block. You can now recreate the block any number of times for a consistent and professional look.

Move

You can change the arrangement of the various blocks on your website anytime. Click on the Up arrow or Down arrow to move the block in the indicated direction. Doing so ensures you won’t have to copy and paste the block if you decide that you want to arrange the blocks differently.

Delete Block

You can delete blocks that are not needed. Instead of deleting and adding a new block, you can also change the block type so that you’ll keep the text and images you have added to it.

Elements

To show or hide an element, click the eye icon (show elements) in the desired block on the left and set or remove the checkmark. Elements in your Blocks are images, text, and buttons. You can add or remove them at will and further customize your blocks.
